Hume Lake Pastor’s Retreat

I get to go on a pastor’s retreat to Hume Lake this week. I’ve never been there before, but I hear it’s extraordinary. I read The Five Dysfunctions of a Team-A Leadership Fable by Patrick Lencioni this past week in preparation as we’re going through that material together as a staff while there. I’m also planning on reading Andy Stanley’s Visioneering, alongside the Book of Nehemiah, while sitting somewhere near the spot in the picture above. I hope it really is a retreat and not just four days of busyness. I could really use some peace and quiet – some space to reflect, renew and refocus.

“PEOPLE over projects”…

What you shared was brilliant. It hit me right in the chest.

Thanks Ryan. That really means a lot to me that you understood my incoherent mess of emotion.

I can so easily spend all of my time and energy on bringing together creative projects. That’s what comes naturally to me. What I need to do so much more is to pour my time and energy into sharing both my life and my faith with others.

The biggest thing I took away from our time at Hume this week is that it’s not about being a better designer or director. I want to grow in being a better pastor and friend.

Hey Bob,

Hume Lake is in California East of Fresno, right next to Kings Canyon National Park. It really is a beautiful place.
